Bassem Christo is a Lebanese Director & Producer renowned for his innovative approach to television, pioneering new trends in TV production and leveraging cutting-edge technology.

Widely regarded as one of the most talented directors in the Arab World and the Middle East, Christo has inspired and influenced a generation of filmmakers with his visionary style.

Born to the poet and painter Joseph Christo and the poet and painter Bassima Batouli, Bassem showed a creative spirit early in life. After high school, he initially pursued law but soon realized that the courtroom was not where his passions lay. Transitioning to the media world, he worked as a DJ and radio host of French programs at a Lebanese FM station, where his love for music and sound design blossomed. This newfound passion ultimately shaped his career trajectory.

During the Lebanese Civil War, Christo left his native town of Ashrafieh and moved to Ghazir-Kesrouan, where he began training at the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation (LBC). At LBC, he immersed himself in the world of television, gaining hands-on experience in studios, control rooms, and editing suites. It was here that his talent found fertile ground to grow.

Christo’s directorial debut came with the program Camera Wein, and at just 25 years old, he directed his first talent show, Toute la ville chante et danse, for C33, the French-language affiliate of LBC. Over the years, he directed some of LBC’s most iconic shows, including Btekhsar Iza Ma Btelaab and Iftah Albak. His contributions extended beyond television to major musical events, directing concerts for Beat Machine, Scorpions, Julio Iglesias, and Raul Di Blasio.

Expanding his repertoire, Christo ventured into music video direction, receiving the “Best Music Clip Director” award at the Beirut International Film Festival in 1997 for the Middle East’s first one-shot video for Marie Sleiman’s song Fi Aynek Badawwar. His work with LBC also included covering the Cannes Film Festival for consecutive years, a role that required meticulous attention to detail and sleepless nights perfecting his craft.

During his time at LBC, Christo met Rita, a “scripte” who would become his wife and the mother of their daughter, Mia-Maria. In 2000, he left LBC to embark on a freelance career, directing TV programs, music videos, festivals, and events. In 2004, he joined the hit talk show Maestro with presenter Neshan Der Haroutiounian, where he introduced groundbreaking artistic concepts that elevated the show’s success during Ramadan.

In 2006, Christo founded his first production company, Periba, in Beirut, followed by the establishment of Ogmented in Dubai in 2018.

Through these companies, he produced numerous hit TV shows and live events, further cementing his reputation as a creative force in the region. These ventures allowed Christo to bring his unique artistic vision to audiences across the Middle East, delivering exceptional content and unforgettable live experiences.

Since then, Christo has directed and produced over 60 television programs, including Talk of the Town, Taratata, X-Factor, The Voice, and Dancing with the Stars. He has directed more than 50 music videos, such as Barsha by Saber Rebai, Aal Jamer by Wael Jassar, Ya Shog by Marwan Khoury, and La Ana by Suzanne Tamim. Additionally, he has helmed over 300 concerts, festivals, and events for stars like Shakira, Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, Andrea Bocelli,Julio Iglesias, Magida El Roumi, Julia Boutros, Mohammed Abdo, Elissa, Wael Kfoury, and Amr Diab, as well as major events like Miss Lebanon, the Murex D’Or , Expo Dubai 2020 concerts and the Cedars International Festival.

Throughout his career, Christo has collaborated with leading TV networks in the Arab World, including MBC, ART, MTV, Dubai TV, Rotana, Abu Dhabi TV, Al-Hayat, OSN, Oman TV, and SBC TV. His groundbreaking work continues to set benchmarks in the world of entertainment, solidifying his legacy as a trailblazer in the industry.

In 2006, Christo went into TV production and co-founded the production house "PERIBA" located in Beirut- Lebanon, with the renowned French-Lebanese TV producer Peri Cochin.

He is currently the managing Partner and General Manager of Periba Productions, specialized in producing TV programs, artistic audiovisual works, events and films.

Periba has since produced many of the most famous TV programs in the Arab world, such as "Chakou Makou" and "Hadith AL Balad" (the Arabic version of “Tout le Monde en Parle”), "Taratata", "Swalefna Helwa" (the Arabic version of “Union Libre”), "Num ber One Fan" known as "Moojab Ajib", "Zahrat Al Khalij", "Najm Al Khalij 4 & 5”, “Al Aakrab”, “Mouzii Al-Arab”, “Back to school” and many others.

Also a partner at Bright I, a company specialized in media training facility and it’s a powerful doorway to a career in the television industry both in Lebanon and the Arab World since 2006.

Co-founder of Silver brain, an innovative film & broadcast equipment company manufacturing high end products to supply the needs of an evolving industry.

Founder of Dimension 7, an offshore production company established in 2015.

Founder of Ogmented FZ-LLC The Company that specializes in TV production using augmented reality and offering production services, lighting and Arial shooting established in Dubai-UAE in 2018.
Ogmented was globally the first company to integrate an avatar as a host in a Live TV show  « The Hidden Host » launched in Ramadan 2024 . The show was a seismic shift that brought with it an unprecedented technological breakthrough in Live TV entertainment by using the live motion capture combined with AR.

With this innovation Ogmented pushed the boundaries of what is possible in Live TV, creating an entirely new viewing experience that blurs the line between reality and virtuality.Board Member in Screen Institute- Beirut, a Lebanese non-profit association that aims to support and promote film in all its forms.
